Negaunee, Michigan January 26th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball Team hosted the Iron Mountain Mountaineers tonight, for a fight for the UP with both teams undefeated. Jesse Anderson and Brady Guilbault were there to bring you all the exciting action from the U.P. Propane Press Box on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners lost the tip, but Jay Lori scored the first basket of the game to give the Miners the early lead. The quarter was half the Negaunee Miners maintained a 2 point lead 8-6 against the Mountaineers. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers took their first lead 11-10 with 3 minutes left in the first quarter. The Negaunee Miners lead 16-15 against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers at the end of one on Sunny.FM.
The Negaunee Miners started the second quarter with the first basket to maintain a small lead 16-15. The Negaunee Miners played great defense in the second quarter and led at the half way mark. The Negaunee Miners played great all around ball and finished the first half with a 30-26 lead over the Mountaineers on Sunny.FM.
The Miners came out into the third quarter with an immediate score to widen their lead to 32-26. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers tied the score 34-34 with two minutes played in the second half. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers took their second lead of the night 35-34 with 4 minutes left in the quarter. The Negaunee Miners trailed 39-41 at the end of the third quarter.
The Negaunee Miners regained the lead early in the fourth quarter 42-41. The next few minutes was a back and forth battle and with the quarter half over the Negaunee Miners had a 44-43. Both of these teams battle a good fight, but the Negaunee Miners pulled out the win to remain seated #1 in the UP. GO MINERS!
The Negaunee Miners defeated the Iron Mountain Mountaineers (51-49) on Sunny.FM.
