
Escanaba, Michigan January 7th, 2016 – The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team traveled to Escanaba, Michigan tonight to face the Escanaba Eskimos. Jesse Anderson was there to bring you all the exciting action from the U.P. Propane Press Box on Sunny.FM.
Trent Bell was first to score in the game and gave the Negaunee Miners the early lead. The first quarter was half over and the Negaunee Miners were on a 8 point run to maintain a lead of 8-0 over the Escanaba Eskimos. The Eskimos put their first points of the game on the board with 31/2 minutes left in the quarter to trail 10-2 against the Miners. The Negaunee Miners ended the first quarter with a sizable lead of 15-6 against the Escanaba Eskimos.
The Eskimos were first to score in the second quarter to gain on the Miners lead, to trail 15-8. The Negaunee Miners found themselves in foul trouble early in the second quarter and had a slow start, but widened their lead 18-8 with 5 minutes left in the first half. The Negaunee Miners struggled a bit during the second quarter, but maintained a 22-11 lead over the Escanaba Eskimos to end the first half.

The Negaunee Miners started the second half with the ball and widened their lead 26-11 against the Escanaba Eskimos in the first minute. The Negaunee Miners offense was stronger in the third quarter and they took a 17 point lead 32-15 with 3 minutes left in the quarter. The Escanaba Eskimos started to gain on the Negaunee Miners lead late in the third quarter to trail 34-19. The Negaunee Miners held the lead 33-23 over the Escanaba Eskimos to end the third quarter on Sunny.FM.
The Escanaba Eskimos started the fourth quarter with a basket from a free throw and cut the Negaunee Miners lead to single digits 33-24. The Negaunee Miners found some fire to end the game tonight and maintained the lead to win 45-28 against the Escanaba Eskimos. The Negaunee Miners record improved to 8-0 after tonight’s win.
