Escanaba, Michigan – December 8th, 2015 – The Negaunee Miner boys took on the Escanaba Eskimos in the first game of the season for the boys, only on 101.9 Sunny.FM! Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson were live with all the action from the Central U.P. on a mild, yet calm Tuesday evening. They brought you the Honor Credit Union Pregame Show from the U.P. The Negaunee Miner boys opened the season by winning the tip off and making a quick drive down the court. The Escanaba Eskimos were able to get a quick steal however, and they scored the first points of the game on a long three-point shot. The Miners were able to answer back, opening a gap after going on a eight-point scoring run. The Miners had some foul trouble, but that didn’t stop them from continuing their strong play. At the end of the first quarter, the score was Negaunee 12 and Escanaba 5.
The Escanaba Eskimos started the second quarter in possession of the ball, but the Negaunee Miners stopped their first drive. A foul gave the Miners their first points of the quarter, but they again went on a run, scoring eight points in less than two minutes. Dylan Tasson played some great defense in the second quarter, bringing down multiple rebounds. Negaunee kept up the offense, moving ahead by a total of 16 points before the end of the first half.

The second half of action started off with the Escanaba Eskimos winning the tip off, but they were unable to score. Trent Bell of the Negaunee Miners took the ball the other way, and the Miners scored two points on a jump shot, from just outside the paint. The Eskimos made some ground up after a couple of free throws, but Negaunee was determined to not let them make a comeback. Halftime seemed to be a needed reprieve for the Eskimos, who’s offense seemed to kick into gear in the second half. They were able to make some ground up on the Miners, but Negaunee wasn’t going to let them come back into the game. The score was 47-27, with Negaunee leading at the end of three quarters.
The Escanaba Eskimos started the last quarter off by scoring two quick points on a fast break lay-up, but the Negaunee Miners answered with two points of their own off of two free throws from a foul. Escanaba fought their way back to within 12 points at one point, when they seemed to find their offense. Trevor Uren helped keep the Miners on top, shutting out the Eskimos on rebounds multiple times throughout the fourth quarter. Trent Bell had an excellent night, hitting two of three three-point attempts in the game.
