Negaunee Miner Boys basketball with Heather Seppenan on Sunny 101.9 WKQS
The Negaunee Miners hit the road to L’Anse in the only match-up of the season between the two schools.
L’Anse, Michigan– The Purple Hornets jump out to a 3-0 lead after converting on a corner 3-pointer. The Miners respond with two straight baskets to take the 4-3 lead. Tanner Uren splits a pair from the line to make it 5-3 Negaunee. With 2:35 left to play in the first quarter the Miners hold a 8-5 lead. The Purple Hornets connect on their third 3-pointer of the quarter to cut the Negaunee lead to 10-8. The Miners recapture the lead on a Tyler Jandron jump-shot.
First quarter:
Negaunee: 14 L’Anse: 11
Brock Weaver makes one-of-two at the line to put Negaunee up 15-11. Jandron scores on the following possession, giving the Miners a 17-11 advantage. The Miners take a 19-11 lead after Tanner Uren scores on a offensive rebound. After a Jandron lay-up Negaunee pushes their lead to 21-11. After a pair of free throws the Miners are up 23-13. The Miners put on the full court press and force consecutive L’Anse turnovers.

With 6:35 to play in the third quarter both teams trade buckets as the Miners are still up 10, 28-18. Negaunee adds to their lead as Jandron caps off a fast break with a lay-up making it 35-18. After a 3-point basket the Miners make it 38-18, midway through the third quarter. The Miners connect on another 3-pointer making it 43-20. With 40 seconds to play in the third, it’s a 48-22 Negaunee advantage.
Third quarter:
Negaunee: 50 L’Anse: 22
With just over five minutes to play in the fourth quarter the Miners are up 55-28. The Miners take a timeout as they hold a 57-29 lead midway through the fourth. After a deep bomb from Uren, Negaunee pushes their lead to 60-29. With 3:31 to go, the Purple Hornets are in the bonus, trailing 62-32. Both teams turn to their benches in the final minutes of the game. Negaunee leads 68-40 with a minute to play.
The Miners use a huge third quarter to blow the game open and win a non-conference road battle as they improve to 8-1 on the season.
