Negaunee, Michigan — The Negaunee Miners look to defend their home court against rival Ishpeming in the teams first match-up of the season.
The Miners jump out to a 4-0 lead early in the first quarter. Negaunee takes a 7-0 lead after a deep 3-pointer. The Hematites are struggling to get on the board against the Negaunee defense. Negaunee explodes to a 10-0 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers as Ishpeming takes a timeout. With 3:33 left in the first, Negaunee holds a 10-3 advantage. The Miners continue to impress on both ends as they take a 16-3 lead. Negaunee dominates the first quarter as they are up 25-3 with under a minute left to play.

Ishpeming hits a free throw to open up the scoring in the second quarter and the Miners respond with another 3-pointer. Negaunee is leading the Hematites 28-6. With six minutes left in the first half Negaunee has a 31-10 lead. With some help from the free throw line Ishpeming looks to climb back into the game as they cut the lead to 32-14. Tyler Uren scores on an offensive rebound, giving him 12 points to lead the Miner attack. With just over two minutes Negaunee leads 36-16. With under a minute left it’s Negaunee 36, Ishpeming 18.

The Hematites get the scoring started in the second half on a pair of free throws. Negaunee leads 36-20. A pair of buckets pushes the Miner lead back to 20 points at 40-20. With 4:44 to play in the third quarter it’s a 46-20 Negaunee advantage. Negaunee pushes their lead to 50-24. Negaunee keeps the pressure up in the third quarter as they extend their lead to 55-28.

The Miners have their starters in to begin the fourth quarter as they hold a 60-31 lead. Tanner Uren exits for Negaunee, after pouring in 19 points to pace the Miners offense. Negaunee is cruising with just over four minutes to play as they are up 29 points. With three minutes left, Negaunee clears their bench. Eric Dompierre checks into the game for the Hematites.
