NEGAUNEE – AUGUST 30, 2024 – The Negaunee Miners Football Season is back, people!!! Announcers Carl Leander Johnson and Brad Saatio are on call live from the stadium on Sunny 101.9. The Negaunee Miners have kicked off their season with a vicious game on their home turf. The pregame show features an insightful interview by Mark Evans with 25-year coach Paul Jacobson of the Miners. While Mark won’t be our on-site announcer this season due to an injury, it’s always a delight to hear him on air for the Negaunee Miners.
Tonight, we witness the “Aunee” Bowl, where the first Wisconsin team takes on Negaunee! Both teams have similar setups, but Negaunee is ready to fight, especially with Kewaunee boasting multiple students as NFL draft picks. We trust Coach Jacobson and his years of football wisdom.
First Half:
In the first quarter, Kewaunee got their first down but the Negaunee quarterback swiftly
tucked the ball, preventing Kewaunee from gaining more ground. Negaunee’s offense fired back with two quick first downs. After a strong opening drive, Negaunee scored first with Weston Yesney crossing the goal line! The first quarter ends with Negaunee 6 – 0 Kewaunee. David Carlson, one of Negaunee’s outer linemen, played a vital role in keeping The Storm Kewaunee out of the Miner’s territory.
As the second quarter unfolded, Kewaunee started understanding Negaunee’s tactics, while Negaunee matched their intensity, not allowing any surprises. Both teams went back and forth without scoring for most of the quarter. Negaunee maintained their lead and with just 20 seconds left, they made a stunning play that brought the score to Negaunee 22 – 0 Kewaunee 0 at halftime.
Second Half:
As the third quarter kicked off, Yesney continued to energize the Miners, leading to explosive plays. Mager executed a fantastic fake-out play, increasing the score to Negaunee 28 – 0 Kewaunee. Despite Kewaunee’s efforts, they only managed one touchdown this quarter, leaving the score at Negaunee 28 – 7 Kewaunee by the end of the third.
