Kingsford, MI – February 28, 2023 – The Negaunee Miner Boys took on the Kingsford Flivvers Tuesday night. Carl Leander Johnson was on the scene for Sunny 101.9.
The first quarter got started with Kingsford, who got the first two points of the game. Kingsford went up by six, causing Negaunee to call a timeout. Gavin Saunders got Negaunee on the board with an easy layup. The Flivvers stellar defense continued to cause the Miners to struggle. Kingsford took an eleven point lead going into the second quarter.
Gavin Downey hit a three pointer to start the second quarter. Shorty after, Brodin Bell hit another three for the Miners to help pull the team back in the game. Another three for Negaunee was hit by Ty Jacobson in efforts to cut Kingsford lead. With under a minute to go the Miners were down by seven. The boys trailed by nine points at the end of the half.
To start the third Gavin Downey got a bucket for Negaunee. The Flivvers continued to score, making it tough for the Miners to make a comeback. Kingsford was up by 18 halfway through the quarter. Jordan Guenette got his first points of the night that helped the team. Bell hit a three at the end of the quarter to pull the Miners back in by 13.
Brodin Bell hit his third three pointer of the night and was fouled on the shot. Bell sunk his free throw to cut Kingsfords lead down. Negaunee trailed by 13 with five minutes left in the quarter. The Miners had some great looks, but struggled to get any to fall. Negaunee scored off a steal, but were still down by eight. The Miners couldn’t pull it off and the Flivvers walked away with the win.
The Negaunee Miner Boys will be back in action at home on Thursday night at 7:30 PM against Iron Mountain. Carl Leander Johnson will be on the scene for Sunny 101.9.
