Negaunee, Mi– January 13th, 2023– The Negaunee Miner Boys fought hard against the Hancock Bulldog’s Monday night in the Miner’s hometown gym. Carl Leander Johnson was on the scene for Marquette County’s Very Own Sunny 101.9
The first quarter started with Matthew Peters taking the first blood for the Negaunee Miners, followed by Gavin Saunders who brought the score to four. Gavin Saunders scored a three pointer, followed by Peters who scored a two pointer bringing the Miners to a score of eleven. Gavin Saunders scored again with a two pointer, giving the Miners a thirteen point run. Evan Gauthier knocks down two free throws at the line. Gavin Jacobson brought the Miners up to a run of eighteen before ending off the quarter.
The Miners run was broken within thirty seconds by a two pointer in the second quarter. Gavin Downey scored two points at the free throw line as well. Evan Gauthier brought the Miners to a score of twenty-five. Gavin Downey scored again, thanks to some help from Gavin Saunders and some contest from Hancock. Gauthier scored again breaking the thirty point mark for Negaunee. He scored again shortly after and brought their lead back for twenty-one. 33-12
The third quarter began with a bucket from Gavin Downey with a two pointer. Ty Jacobson quickly brought the Miners to a score of thirty-eight. Peters scored a two pointer shortly after. The Miners continued to climb, maintaining a consistent lead above twenty points. Guenette was last to score ending the quarter with a score of 46-24
The fourth quarter started off with Guenette who scored a three pointer. Brody Bell followed a few minutes later with a three pointer as well. Evan Gauthier scored a point at the free throw line, followed by Jace Turri who brought the Miners to a lead of 55. Fan favorite Alec Nelson scored with sixteen seconds left, causing the student section to go wild. 58-25
