Negaunee, MI – February 4th, 2022 – The Negaunee Miners boys basketball team continued their season campaign tonight against the Gwinn Modeltowners. The game was broadcasted on Sunny 101.9.

1Q: The second match up between these two squads this year, as the first contest was a 54-42 win for the Negaunee Miners back on December 9th. This second match up started with a very quick seven point lead for the Miners, as Gerald Johnson and Ty Jacobson dominated the opening minute. The Miners continued to blow things open as a few defensive steals produced points offensively, Negaunee led 12-0 with 5:30 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Modeltowners finally got some points on the board, but it came with 1:20 remaining in the opening quarter. It was all Miners in the first eight minutes of play, leading 21-7 heading into the 2nd quarter.
2Q: The Miners began the second quarter with seven straight points to take a 28-7 lead. Both teams would end up in the bonus with 6:30 remaining in the first half as the first quarter was pretty physical. An uneventful few minutes passed as Negaunee’s early lead led to a slower attack offensively. Gerald Johnson led the Miners in the first half as he finished with 16. Gwinn began to get things going later in the quarter, but they would take a 28 point deficit into the locker room. At the half, Negaunee led 42-14.

3Q: The Miners started the quarter with 12 straight points to take the 40 point lead, the clock would now run for the remainder of the game. The rest of the quarter would quickly run out as the Miners led 57-18 heading into the last quarter of play.
4Q: With the running clock, the 4th quarter would quickly expire. It was a different story this time around between these two teams, as once again, in the first match up, the Miners defeated the Modeltowners by 12. A few months later to today, the Miners would defeat the Modeltowners by 42 with a final score of 66-24.
Gerald Johnson won the Player of the Game as he led all scorers with 20.
