Negaunee Girls Basketball take the win 60-26 beating the Gladstone Braves on Sunny 101.9!

Negaunee, MIDecember 3, 2021 – The Negaunee Miners defeated the Gladstone Braves 60-26 and start 2-0 for the 2021-2022 season. Carl Leander Johnson had the call from Gladstone on Sunny 101.9.

 

1st Quarter: It was a strong start for the Miners on both sides of the court as Alyssa Hill was blocking shots left and right, the offense was just as good with the Miners taking a quick 14-0 lead. Lily Nelson drove to the basket, dished the ball to Gauthier who passed it to Hill and she dropped the bucket for two. The dominant quarter of the Miners continued with an and-one layup by Lily Nelson. Alyssa Hill had 8 points to start the game.

End of 1st: Negaunee Miners 21, Gladstone Braves 4

2nd Quarter: In the second quarter, both the Miners and Braves had more of a competitive battle going back and forth in scoring. Braves senior, Claire van Ginhoven, continued her impressive free throw shooting, going perfect for the quarter and for the season. Overall, Negaunee and Gladstone put a 12-11 point scoreline in the second quarter.

3rd Quarter: To start off the third quarter, Ginhoven drove hard to the basket and drew a shooting foul, hitting both free throws. From there, it was pretty much game over as the Negaunee Miners went on a 14-0 run to extend their lead 47-17. Summer Dudo was the shining star in the third quarter with multiple steals and shooting for 10 points in the quarter alone. The Miners’ defense limited the Braves to 4 points for the second time in the third period.

End of 3rd: Negaunee Miners 52, Gladstone Braves 19

4th Quarter: More of the same in the last quarter, with Neguanee’s dominant defense on full display. One of the few Braves highlights was Ginhoven’s free throw shooting streak got up to 26/26 for the season before missing her last free throw of the night, giving her a 26/27 line. The Miners closed out the fourth period quickly, sealing the win and putting them 2-0 for the season.

The Joe Boogren Player of the Game was awarded to Ella Mason. Putting up a great game on both sides of the court shooting for 12 points.
