Negaunee, MI – May 20, 2021 – The Negaunee Miners varsity softball team played host to the traveling Escanaba Eskymos on Thursday evening. The game was broadcast live on 97.5 GTO.
Negaunee started scoring off in their half of the opening inning. Katelyn Lammi earned herself a RBI single hitting home third baseman Allie Ennet. Lammi would be hit home by the following batter, Morgan Carlson. Carlson would also bring Josie Thomson home to give the Miners a 3-0 lead. Lilly Nelson would sacrifice herself to advance Carlson, who would then be hit home by Larissa Anderson.
Eskymo catcher, Carney Salo would hit a single. McKayla Mott would then bring her around to home plate with a RBI double. The Escanaba Eskymos would find themselves with a 4-1 deficit.
The Miners would add yet another run to their total in the bottom of the third. Lilly Nelson would get on base of an error which would bring in the pinch runner for Thomson.
Escanaba would show signs of life in the top of the fourth. Lead-off hitter, Salo would be walked to first. Lizzy Sliva would hammer a two run homer to bring the Eskymos withing two of the Miners.
Negaunee would extend their lead by an extra couple runs. One off a fielder’s choice that saw Nardi cross home plate, and Allie Ennet reaching first base. Another run would score off a wild pitch after Ennet made her way to third to bring her home. That run would be the final of the game, and great defense secured the win for the Miners.
