Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball defeats Iron Mountain on the road 71-45 on Sunny 101.9

Iron Mountain, MIMarch 12, 2021 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team went to Iron Mountain and defeated the Mountaineers 71-45. Jesse Anderson had the call on Sunny 101.9.

Iron Mountain kept the game close in the first quarter.

1st Quarter

The first quarter was evenly matched, as neither team could get a significant lead. For the Negaunee Miners, Alyssa Hill led the team in scoring with an incredible 10 points in the first quarter. Even with this effort, Iron Mountain was able to keep the game close. Negaunee led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

 

2nd Quarter

The second quarter saw Negaunee extend their lead. To start the quarter, both teams continued to trade baskets like they did in the first. However, Negaunee was able to go on an 8-0 run to end the half. The scoring this quarter was spread out throughout the team. Two late field goals from Morgan Carlson and Sierra Hendrickson gave the Miners a halftime lead of 32-19.

3rd quarter

The third quarter was highlighted by an impressive Negaunee offense. The Miners scored 19 points in the quarter to further extend their lead. Negaunee continued to display their depth, as the points were once again spread out well throughout the roster. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers had a solid quarter offensively, but they couldn’t stop the Miners on the other end. Negaunee led 51-32 after the third.

 

4th quarter

Negaunee was strong on offense in the winning effort.

The Miners didn’t give Iron Mountain any chance of a comeback. The final quarter saw Negaunee continue to expand their lead. Notable scorers for the Miners this quarter include Alyssa Hill and Summer Dudo, who both got a couple buckets each. Hill would end the night with 19 points. Emilia Palomaki and Morgan Carlson also had solid contributions, scoring nine and eight points respectively. For Iron Mountain, Anslee Runsat was also able to put up 19, but the Miners still came out on top in convincing fashion 71-45 to get their tenth win of the season.

Final: 71-45
