
Manistique, MI – March 11, 2021 – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team went to Manistique and defeated the Emeralds 51-30. Jesse Anderson had the call on Sunny 101.9.
1st Quarter
It was a back and forth start in Manistique. The Negaunee Miners scored the first three points, but they were quickly answered with an Emerald three. Afterwards, Negaunee went on a staggering 11-2 run. This run was facilitated by Alyssa Hill, who had two key putback layups. Negaunee led at the end of the first 14-5.
2nd quarter
The second quarter was a hard-fought contest, with the Emeralds steadily making a

comeback. The action early in the quarter was back and forth, yet Manistique’s eight unanswered points later in the quarter brought them back into the game. Negaunee’s lead shrunk, but their offense was still finding some success. The Miners scored eight points in the quarter to hold on to their advantage. Negaunee led 22-18 at halftime.
3rd quarter
The Miners and Emeralds went back and forth again to begin the second half. However, Negaunee’s defense came up big by holding the emeralds to five points in the quarter. On the other end, The Miners were finding the bottom of the net. Negaunee ended the 3rd quarter on a 12-2 run to extent their lead going into the fourth. This was highlighted by a three by Josie Thompson in the final seconds, which brought Negaunee’s lead to 38-23 to close the quarter.
4th quarter

Negaunee started off the final quarter by scoring the first four points to bring their lead to 19. Manistique would go on a short run of their own afterwards, but the lead was too much to overcome at this point. Manistique only managed to get within 15 during the rest of the game, and Negaunee would end the game by scoring the last five points to win 51-30. The Miner’s were led by Alyssa Hill, who ended the night with 14 points.
Final: 51-30
