Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball Rolls to Big 57-25 Win over Hancock on Sunny 101.9

Negaunee, MIFebruary 24, 2021 – It was a dominant effort by the Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team on Wednesday night, as they defeated the Hancock Bulldogs, 57-25. Negaunee has now won two games in a row, and has improved their record to 3-4. Jesse Anderson had the call live from Negaunee on Sunny 101.9.

Negaunee took a big lead quickly with a balanced scoring attack. Eli Luokkala, Will Luke, Mason Sager and Gerald Johnson all had baskets for the Miners, and they took a 10-2 lead. Luke and Hancock’s JD Sebbas traded baskets, and the Miners took a 15-4 advantage. Negaunee continued its offensive onslaught with three more baskets from Sager, Luke and Jackson Gladwell.

After an impressive opening quarter, Negaunee kept extending the lead with a basket from Luke and a 3-pointer from Gladwell. Sebbas was trying to keep the Bulldogs afloat, but the Miners were too much on the other end. Negaunee rolled in the first half, and raced out to a 38-15 halftime lead.

The second half started slow for both teams, and Luokkala finally scored the first points of the third after three minutes had gone by. Hancock got baskets from Vandan Jacques and Gabe Smith in the quarter, but Johnson started heating up for the Miners. Johnson and Gavin Jacobson scored all of Negaunee’s points in the third quarter, and they extended the lead up to 30 points.

Negaunee began to substitute in the fourth quarter, and the lead didn’t dwindle. The Miners worked the ball around and got baskets from Jacobson and Gavin Saunders. In a complete team effort, the Miners improved to 3-4 with a 57-25 win over Hancock.

Final Score: Negaunee Miners 57, Hancock Bulldogs 25

 

NEXT GAME: The Negaunee Miners Boys Basketball team is back in action this weekend on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a trip up to Houghton to take on the Gremlins.
