Marquette, MichiganNovember 15, 2020 – Anna Dravland, President and Founder of GivingTuesday Military edition, joined Todd Pazz on the 8th Day Radio Show to discuss how one act of kindness can change the world. It is with this in mind that three military spouses from different branches of service made the decision to go global and inspire 1 million acts of kindness by establishing the inaugural GivingTuesday Military edition.

Listen:

GivingTuesday, which is the Tuesday directly following Thanksgiving, was established in 2012 with one goal in mind, to make generosity go viral. This global day of giving is designed to inspire charitable giving to organizations that are changemakers in their communities, but also stimulate collaboration and volunteerism in communities.

GivingTuesday Military was founded in 2019 by active duty military spouses Maria Reed, Jessica Manfre, and Samantha Gomolka who were brought together through the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year program. Together they hope to unite all branches of service, Veterans, family members of those who have served, and patriotic supporters in a global day of giving back to the communities the live and work in. Their focus is encouraging intentional giving of one’s time and energy, in lieu of traditional gifting of monetary resources. The 2019 inaugural GivingTuesdayMilitary reached 2.5 million people and created undeniable social impact.

Anna Dravland, founder of Spread Goodness Day, and partnered businesses and individuals will be facilitating kindness efforts in the UP. Anna Dravland has long been an advocate to supporting her local military through an annual car wash. Total over 8 years, over $8000 have been raised to support Christmas parties, picnics, soldiers with cancer, funeral expenses and more! We are excited to announce our UP mission to support and uplift our local military and Jacobetti Center veterans. We also hope this provides a project for students and schools that gets them outside of the virtual world and endless screen time.

For November 1st – December 1st, we have opened up a PO Box for people to send letters, cards or care packages to the men and women of the 652nd, 107th and our Dj Jacobetti Home For Veterans. (Out of Harvey, Ishpemimg and Marquette)

It’s a strange time for all of us but, The active soldiers and veterans at the retirement home face unusual challenges. The soldiers typical gatherings aren’t able to take place and effects the camaraderie activities that bring them together and encourage them as they serve our country. The veterans at the retirement home have long faced restrictions on visitors due to the pandemic. Let’s show them some love!

Here’s how it works:

1. Choose your recipient.
The 652nd and the 107th are the two active military units in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The DJ Jacobetti Center assisted living for retired veterans.

2. Write a letter, send a funny or uplifting card, care package or silly present.

3. Address your letter to your selected military recipient.
