Green Cove Springs, FL – February 9, 2016 – Like in many regions of Florida, wetlands and swamps thrive in the Green Cove Springs area. As a newcomer from the hills of Virginia in the mid 80s, I was informed that I should run the other way from communities built on land with cypress knees.
I soon learned that cypress trees are a type of fine needled pine tree that live in very wet areas. Their roots rise from the earth in skinny, knee-like humps.
So, if you plan to relocate, beware of the cypress knees in Florida. I snapped a photo of some cypress knees along the banks of Spring Run, a lovely creek that is formed from the outflow of the “Boil” in Spring Park.
