Negaunee, Michigan – Todd Pazz spoke to Linda and Deklan Marshall in late March 2018 to discuss the challenges and rewards of being part of the Negaunee First Robotics Team 4827. They spoke of their recent district competition in Escanaba and their upcoming competition at Lake Superior State University. The drama of the competition was highlighted as well. The eleven students of the team left for Escanaba with their non-working robot, named Foobox. However, with cooperation and help from their competition, they got Foobox running in time to participate.

Fundraisers and help from family members involved made the robotics activities a family activity.  For a

team to succeed it needs many different skills, not just programmers and engineering skills.  Game strategy, public speaking, writing, social networking as well as many other skills are needed.  The team is outreaching year around, but the intense robotics season is January through April.

Linda Marshall is going to move to mentor younger teams as her son moves on to college.

Just to register and get the annual robotics kit is $5,000.00.  Travel, hotel, food, and so on are additional costs.  Fundraising and community sponsorship is very important to success.
