Marquette, MIMarch 16, 2026 – Blizzard conditions are continuing across Upper Michigan this morning with very dangerous snowfall and winds.  The National Weather Service in Negaunee Township says these conditions are expected to continue through the day today and into the overnight hours with conditions slowly improving tomorrow from west to east.

State Police and Emergency Management personnel say that travel is treacherous and potentially life-threatening as the widespread blowing snow and continuing heavy snowfall rates are significantly reducing visibility.  They add that travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

Multiple school districts are closed today, including NMU, Michigan Tech, Bay College and others, and several community and government agencies are not open and services and events are cancelled.  If you have appointments today, it is best to try to reach out and call ahead to see if it is still on or to reschedule.

Total accumulations of this blizzard are expected to reach up to 4 feet in the traditional snow belt areas across Upper Michigan by late tonight or tomorrow morning.  Officials say dangerously high winds, gusting up to 60 mph will continue today with the strongest near the Lake Superior shoreline.

The strong winds could cause tree damage and result in power outages.  Utility companies say that if you have a power outage, report it as soon as possible so crews can respond.  They add if you come across a downed power line do not touch it.
