Marquette, MI January 30, 2025 – On Monday, January 27, the White House Office of Management and Budget issued a directive temporarily halting all federal grants, loans, and other forms of financial assistance, including disbursements already in progress.

That directive was rescinded on Wednesday, January 29, following widespread confusion and push back including legal action by 22 states.

Officials with the Lake Superior Community Partnership say they are actively working with local, state, and federal partners to assess the potential impact and coordinate efforts to limit impact locally.

LSCP CEO Christopher Germain spoke about the Partnership’s effort to navigate the situation over the last several days with Mark & Walt in the Morning.

Germain said that confusion surrounding the directive forced some organizations and businesses to make difficult in-the-moment decisions due to restricted access to systems the federal government assured would remain operational.

He said Government spending is a critical component of the local economy and a full-on freeze of previously committed federal funding is not a productive solution, especially such a broad freeze with so many unknowns and conflicting information.

Germain explained that while the LSCP is optimistic that the issues have been resolved for now, they are encouraging local employers affected by this order to be in contact with the LSCP for advocacy efforts.
