Marquette, MI – May 12, 2020 – The 127th Wing from at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base took flight over Marquette and Houghton today as part of the #MichiganStrong Flyover. The Michigan Strong Flyovers serve to show of appreciation for our Michigan Heroes who are on the front lines of this battle against COVID-19.
Small groups gathered around the DJ Jacobetti Home For Veterans today as we stood waiting to see the KC-135 Stratotankers pass overhead. Around 1:40 pm the planes passed over Marquette Hospital before flying “up” 5th Street to fly over DJ Jacobetti. A soft roar could be heard as the Nation Guard flew over head.
People around Marquette enjoyed watching the planes from the two designated regions or right from their homes. It was nice to see people able to get out and witness something as a community while still abiding by social distancing ordinances.
The planes will continue back down state to join A-10 Thunderbolts in more multi-city flyovers around other Michigan cities including Traverse City, Flint, Lansing, Battle Creek.
