Marquette, MI  –  March 15, 2019  –  Marquette Food Co-op celebrated another year of existence this evening during their 2019 Annual Meeting and Owner Drive. Tonight’s gathering at the Ramada in downtown Marquette gave the hundreds of Marquette Food Co-Op owners a chance to meet each other, enjoy a delicious meal, and hear about the successes 2018 brought.

Marquette Food Co-Op President Phil Britton got things started by welcoming everyone out to the annual meeting and beginning with three toasts. The first was a toast to growth! Everyone recognized each of the new members who had joined over the least year. Second was a toast to loss. During 2018, the Marquette Food Co-Op lost two of their own, Brian Brady and Emily Wright. Each of them had a strong influence on what the Marquette Food Co-Op is today. Finally to wrap up the introduction, Britton welcomed the new Marquette Food Co-Op board members.

The reason Marquette Food Co-op is a cooperative is because a cooperative is about people and the community. It’s about bringing people together and in this case, also giving Marquette area residents a healthier grocery alternative. Being open to not just owners but shoppers as well, the annual Marquette Food Co-Op meeting gives people a chance to hear the details on exactly what goes on and what being a member and owner really means. It’s also a fun time of music, delicious food and drinks, and giveaways!

This year's event was held at the Ramada Inn in Marquette.

On the entertainment side, the Chocolay Raptor Center brought out two birds that really peaked the crowds interest. There was also live music, giveaways with items from local businesses throughout Marquette, and a child’s area for children during the business meeting.

If you didn’t make it out to tonight’s meeting but want to know more about the Marquette Food Co-Op and becoming a member, check out the Co-Op Ownership Page.

Also, don’t forget to drop by the co-op March 13th through the 17th for the St. Partick’s Day Store Sale. You’ll find great deals and save big for your St. Paddy’s Day party!
