Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Area letter carriers say last Saturday’s annual food drive was a success.
Marquette County postal workers collected food donations to help re-stock local food pantries in the annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
The collection is a nation-wide effort by the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United Way and officials say a record 16,000 pounds of food were collected in Marquette this year.
Another 9,000 pounds of food was collected in the Negaunee and Ishpeming areas.
The food collected in the area was distributed to several local agencies including St. Vincent DePaul, Salvation Armies, Harbor House, Janzen House and Voices for Youth to help fill seasonally diminished pantries.
