Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Heavy and wet snow moving from western to north central Upper Michigan may cause some travel problems overnight.
A Winter Storm Watch is posted for Marquette County and areas of the western U.P. late tonight through noon tomorrow.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Baraga, Houghton and Keweenaw counties for the same period.
The National Weather Service says rain will change over to heavy wet snow late this evening and may fall heavy at times with snowfall rates over one inch per hour expected before diminishing tomorrow morning.
6 inches or more of wet heavy snow is possible for locations northwest of a line from Champion to Big Bay while 5 to 8 inches of snow is possible across higher terrain areas of Baraga county.
North winds of 10 to 20 mph late tonight will become northwesterly and increase to 15 to 25 mph by tomorrow with gusts of 30 to 35 mph along Lake Superior.
