U.P. Lawmakers Praise Economic Zone Approval

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Senator Tom Casperson and State Representative John Kivela are thanking the Michigan Strategic Fund Board for final approval of a specialized economic development zone in the U.P.

    The creation of the Next Michigan Superior Trade Zone covering the central U.P. was approved when Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation creating the zone by Kivela and Casperson into law in 2013.

    The Superior Trade Zone is a coalition of 16 local governments including Delta and Marquette Counties; the Cities of Escanaba, Gladstone, and Marquette and several adjacent townships.

    The zone will leverage and promote business development focusing on assets unique to the region.
