Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Upper Peninsula Power Company has announced the annual spring drawdowns of their hydroelectric reservoirs.
UPPCO officials say the lowering of the water levels is done every year in anticipation of spring runoff and precipitation.
Drawdowns at the Victoria and Bond Falls reservoirs in Ontonagon County begin later this month.
The Lake Gogebic reservoir in Gogebic County and Prickett Hydro Dam reservoir in Baraga County will be lowered in February.
The drawdowns may cause unsafe ice conditions on the reservoirs and people are urged to use caution near them.
Normal water levels are expected to be returned starting in April.
