Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – 110th District State Representative Scott Dianda has introduced a resolution urging the DNR acquisition of land surrounding the Douglass Houghton Falls in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
The Calumet Democrat says county officials recently found significant public support for the acquisition while updating their recreation plan.
The falls are on Hammell Creek on private land surrounded by over 60 acres of state-owned rail trails and M-26.
Dianda says while the falls are a “must-see” attraction, visitors are technically trespassing when they hike to them.
He says he is hopeful for a strategic DNR acquisition to ensure greater public access to the falls.
