NMU First Nations Food Taster Coming This Friday In Marquette

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The NMU Native American Student Association is hosting the 16th annual First Nations Food Taster this Friday on campus at the D.J. Jacobetti Complex in Marquette.

    NMU student and NASA member Caitlin Wright and Dr. Martin Reinhardt with the NMU Center for Native American Studies joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to invite all to this special dinner event.

    Wright said the food taster will run from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and features a variety of dishes made from indigenous ingredients of the Great Lakes region that were created through the recent Decolonizing Diet Project.

    Some items include turkey stir fry, sunbutter cookies, minty wild rice salad, and pumpkin cornbread.

    Reinhardt explained what the Decolonizing Diet Project was all about and how it highlighted foods that were available in the region prior to European contact.

    Wright added that tickets on sale at the Center for Native American Studies at 112 Whitman Hall and are also available at the Multicultural Education and Resource Center at 3001 Hedgcock on campus.

    Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
