Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A northern Michigan city government official with ties to the U.P. is under investigation as he is hospitalized in Grand Rapids.

According to reports, police were called to the home of Traverse City Manager Jered Ottenwess on Monday, February 16 by his mother, who said he was drunk all weekend and was trying to assault her.

Ottenwess was taken into protective custody by police and taken to Munson Medical Center.

Ottenwess has since e-mailed the assistant city manager and city attorney to say he’s in “treatment in Grand Rapids” and will be there for several weeks.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff says because his department was not initially called to the scene, they’re still working on piecing together what happened as part of their investigation.

A report will be forwarded to the prosecutor for review.

Ottenwess served as Ishpeming City Manager from March of 2010 to mid 2013.
