Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The State House has passed a pair of resolutions authored by U.P. lawmakers supporting the Marquette County Road Commission’s effort gain approval for a proposed road project.
The House adopted the resolutions by State Representatives Scott Dianda of Calumet and John Kivela of Marquette supporting the Road Commission’s appeal of the federal EPA decision that denied approval for the building of County Road 595.
It would be a Class A road built over a 21 mile dirt road connecting County Road Triple-A in Michigamme Township with US-41 in Humboldt Township and would divert a majority of commercial truck traffic currently passing through several communities.
A concurrent Senate resolution has been offered by Senator Tom Casperson of Escanaba and is expected to be taken up by the Senate next week.
