Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says she is disappointed President Obama’s budget proposal as it cuts several million dollars in Great Lakes funding.

The President’s budget decreases the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative by $50 million compared to current funding levels.

Stabenow says with many water quality challenges, the federal government needs to continue to invest in the health of the Great Lakes and waterways.

Stabenow has called for strong funding for the Great Lakes by asking for $475 million for the program as recently as 2014.
