Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police from the Wakefield and Calumet Posts are reporting an overnight fatal snowmobile accident in Ontonagon County.
The accident happened just before midnight, central time, on Trail #8, east of Ewen when a westbound machine operated by 31-year-old Brandon Laubenthal of Bancroft, Iowa left the trail and struck a tree.
Laubenthal was taken to to Aspirus Grandview Hospital in Ironwood where he later died of injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities say alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be factors in this accident and the investigation is continuing.
