Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Extremely low wind chills have resulted in schools closings around the U.P. All schools in Marquette, Alger, Delta, Schoolcraft, Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Dickinson, Ontonagon counties are closed today as wind chills are being reported around 30 below.
The National Weather Service has issued Wind Chill Warnings across the region for today into this afternoon. High winds have produced dangerously low wind chills this morning. The lowest wind chill readings will be around 35 degrees below zero this morning. Wind chill readings will return to 25 to 30 below zero tonight into Tuesday morning.
Officials have re-opened highway M-28 between Kawbawgam Road in Marquette County and Munising. State Police at Central Dispatch in Negaunee are warning motorists who are driving east of Au Train this morning to be prepared for rapid changes in visibility with brief near white-out conditions in the heavier snow bands east of Au Train.
