Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Early numbers are indicating a good night for incumbents in Michigan.
With less than 15 percent of precincts reporting, incumbents in all of the major races (Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General) are leading over their respective challengers.
The Michigan Radio Network says Democratic U.S. Representative Gary Peters will become the new junior U.S. senator from Michigan as Peters after defeating Republican former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land.
Peters’ victory was widely expected after polls showed him pulling away from Land in October.
On a national level, early projections are indicating that the Republicans will retain control of the U.S. House.
In races for the U.S. House of Representatives, State Senate and State House of Representatives, all incumbents are currently leading and are expected to hold those majorities as numbers continue to be tabulated.
The two statewide ballot proposals, #1-which addressed a proposed wolf hunting season in Michigan, and #2-which dealt with allowing the Natural Resources Commission the power to designate game species in Michigan are heading to defeat.
The measures, however, have been relegated as moot due to legislative action on the issues earlier this year.
Results for local races and ballot proposals are starting to come in and finals numbers are expected soon.
