Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) –  Legislation sponsored by State Senator Tom Casperson addressing funding concerns of local units of government and schools has moved out of committee in Lansing.

The bills prevent passage of additional laws and regulations requiring local units of government and schools to perform new or increased activities or services without state funding covering associated expenses.

The Escanaba Republican says the bills reinforce provisions of Michigan’s Headlee Tax Amendment by increasing awareness of potential costs and ensuring that the Legislature appropriates sufficient funds to pay local units of government for each state requirement imposed upon them by law or department rule.

The package is now before the full Senate for further consideration.
