Marquette Receives Grant For Freeze Problems

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission has voted to accept block grant money from the State of Michigan to pay for infrastructure damages caused by last winter’s extended freeze.

    At their regular meeting last night, the City Commission formally voted to acctept the funding.

    The City of Marquette qualified for a $480,000 Michigan Community Development Block Grant to help pay for repairs of damages caused by the long winter.

    Commissioners are pleased that the city is receiving the money, but they say it will not be enough. Damages caused by the freeze have been totaled at about $1-point-4 million and the city will have to get the remaining money out of the its general fund
