Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Lakes Radio) – Lundin Mining has announced the official start of operations at the Eagle Mine in northern Marquette County.
Officials say crews are ramping up production of nickel and copper concentrates at the underground facility as of this week.
Ore from the mine is being shipped to the Humboldt Mill and processed into nickel and copper concentrates which will be shipped to customers starting in mid-October.
A full production schedule of 2,000 tons a day is expected to be reached by February.
Lundin says the mine employs over 300 people and is expected to produce 360 million pounds of nickel, 295 million pounds of copper, and small amounts of other metals over an estimated mine life of eight years.
