Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A bill honoring veterans in the western U.P. introduced by 110th District State Representative Scott Dianda has advanced out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The bill would name the Highway M-64 bridge over the Ontonagon River in Ontonagon Township the “Ontonagon County Veterans Memorial Bridge.”
The Calumet Democrat says the measure was introduced last July following a recommendation from the Ontonagon County Veterans’ Association.
There are currently roughly 1,000 veterans who live in Ontonagon County, which has a total population of 6,400 people.
Dianda says the naming would be a fitting memorial to the many men and women from the County who served their country.
