Marquette Mayor Discusses Duke LifePoint – MGH Hospital Construction Plan

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette City Commission is holding a special meeting this afternoon to consider an offer from Duke LifePoint to build the new Marquette General Hospital in the city.

    Marquette Mayor Bob Niemi joined the SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike to discuss the plan for construction of the new facility.

    Niemi said if approved, the new facility will be constructed on and area of vacant land between Washington Street and Baraga Avenue known as the Roundhouse Property.

    Duke LifePoint is looking to purchase the property for $4 million for the $170 million hospital construction.

    The planned project would be built on approximately 37 acres of land.

    Niemi said the meeting is set for 4 p.m. today at Commission Chambers at City Hall in Marquette and all interested parties are welcome to attend.
