Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Aerial tree trimming around electrical transmission lines is planned for this week for Marquette, Baraga and Houghton counties.
American Transmission Company says a helicopter and heavy-duty air saw will be used during August to trim trees along a 138,000-volt transmission line between the Perch Lake Substation near Republic and the Winona Substation in Elm River Township in Houghton County.
The helicopters are equipped with heavy-duty air saws with rotary blades suspended on a 90-foot vertical boom.
The helicopter and saw most recently cleared an area from Norway, Michigan, to Perch Lake in July.
The work is dependent on good weather, so the schedule is subject to change.
