Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette Downtown Development Authority has begun the process of implementing new parking policies and modifications that are part of an overall strategic management plan.
The DDA says while they will work to provide and manage sufficient, convenient, public parking to best serve the downtown, funds received from parking permits and current parking meters are not sufficient to continue their maintenance.
The agency says for the last several years the parking fund has operated in a deficit and other funding sources have been used to supplement the system. Several changes will affect parking rental tenants in downtown beginning October 1st.
The cost of monthly long-term parking will increase $5 per month to $25. The volume discount rate for businesses purchasing a quantity of 10 or more will be $20 per permit. Also as of October 1st, the “part-time” parking permits will be discontinued.
ln the next several months, the DDA will also be evaluating other options to better manage downtown parking.
