Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer says it is clear that there is a wolf problem in the Upper Peninsula but won’t say whether he supports a wolf hunt in the U-P.

The former congressman and state legislator from Battle Creek does not feel the 43 wolves that the state Department of Natural Resources plans to harvest this fall would make much difference.

Schauer says people downstate need to be educated on the problems that wolves are causing in the U.P.

Schauer and Governor Rick Snyder both campaigned at the Upper Peninsula State Fair last week in Escanaba, which has been a traditional campaign stop in past years.
