Copper Harbor Man Arraigned On Drug Charges

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Keweenaw County man is facing a preliminary examination on August 29th following his arraignment this week on various drug charges.

    63-year old Thomas Ornelas of Copper Harbor was arrested after police confiscated more than 15 pounds of marijuana during a raid Monday at his home.

    Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Deputies, acting on information from National Park Rangers on Isle Royale, executed a search warrant Ornelas’ home in Grant Township.

    Approximately 15 pounds of loose and processed marijuana, 34 plants and the equipment used in an extensive grow operation were seized.  Ornelas was arraigned on a seven-year felony count of manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and a two-year felony firearm charge.

    He’s also charged with a two-year high court misdemeanor of maintaining a drug house.

    Ornelas remains lodged in the Keweenaw County jail on a $10,000 bond.
