Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority officially dedicated the 12-mile section of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail connecting Marquette and Negaunee this afternoon.

The ceremony was held today at the Negaunee Old Towne Park across from the Negaunee Senior Center.

Officials say the $1.9 million project involved a series of land purchases and swaps, retaining easements, making the Soo Line bridge pedestrian friendly, and negotiating a railroad crossing.

The project was paid for by a variety of grants and an Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority millage.
