MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A State Senate committee met today in Lansing on the controversial issue of Medicaid expansion.
Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville announced that a bill may be unveiled by the middle of next week, so the public can comment as early as its next meeting, scheduled for July 31.
Governor Rick Snyder has been prodding lawmakers into approving the expansion proposal, although many conservative Republicans oppose the effort in part because it’s linked to the federal Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare,” and thus could make them vulnerable to primary challenges next year from tea party Republicans.
But the Governor says approving the expansion to 320,000 more Michiganders can make Michigan healthier, both financially and physically.
