Private Plane Makes Emergency Landing on US-2

    U.P._News_UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A small private plan made an emergency landing early this morning on US-2 in Gogebic County.

    The Gobebic County Sheriff’s Department says the pilot landed the plane on the highway near Blacjack Road in Bessemer Township just before 5:00 a.m. after the craft began experiencing some engine trouble.

    The pilot, Aaron Routsala of Ironwood, said he was trying to get the single-engine Piper Cherokee back to the Gogebic County Airport when he had to land it on the roadway.

    No injuries were reported and the plane was towed to the Gogebic County Airport.

    Law enforcement and Federal Aviation Administration officials have been notified, and an investigation into the cause of the engine trouble is underway.
