Land is the first Republican to enter the race to succeed retiring Democratic U.S. Senator Carl Levin. During a stop today in Marquette, the 54-year old Land says she will be hitting the road over the next few months on a listening tour to hear how Washington D.C. could be improved.

Last month, Land said it was her intention to get into the race, but wanted to wait until July 1 to make it official. U.S. Representative Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township has all but cleared the field for the Democratic nomination.
