MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan charter schools are among the top performers in the nation, according to a new report.
The study by the Center for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University shows that Michigan charter schools averaged in the top half of charter schools in 25 states for both reading and mathematics.
The report shows, on average, Michigan charters provided students 43 days more of learning in a school year than traditional schools putting the state’s charters fifth for reading and ninth in mathematics.
But Michigan charters were still below the national average for reading and math based on 2011 fourth grade National Assessment of Educational Progress scores.
