Great Lakes Radio NewsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Fewer Michiganders plan to travel over the Fourth of July holiday period, compared to last year, according to a new survey from “Triple-A Michigan.”

A new auto club survey projects nearly 1.4 million Michigan residents will travel at least 50 miles or more from home between Wednesday, July 3 and Sunday, July 7. That’s down about one percent from last year.

However, Nancy Cain of “Triple-A Michigan,” says it’s not that big of a surprise since the travel period is one day shorter than a year ago.  The survey also found that 87 percent of Michiganders will travel by vehicle this year, despite gas prices averaging $3.81 per gallon, about 11 cents per gallon higher than last year.
