45-year-old Shane Hanley of Norway was sentenced to 15 and a half years in federal prison for possession of child pornography. Hanley was also ordered to twenty years of supervised release following his prison term, required to pay nearly $18,000 in restitution to victims, and re-register as a sexual offender.
In February, Hanley plead guilty to a federal indictment charging him with possession of child pornography. In July of 2011 authorities discovered Hanley was sharing child pornography via peer-to-peer software on his computer.
Investigation revealed that Hanley had child pornography stored on his home computer and DVDs. Hanley admitted that he had used the software to locate and download child pornography, which he compared to stamp collecting.
Hanley had been previously convicted of criminal sexual conduct involving minors in Michigan in 1993 and 1994. He was a registered sex offender in Michigan.
