U.P._News_UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Mich) will announce Friday whether he will seek the Republican nomination to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by long-time U.S. Senator Carl Levin (D-Mich).

The Detroit News reports that a Rogers spokesperson has confirmed the announcement will come Friday, but would not disclose how or where the Howell Republican will make the announcement.

Last month, Rogers indicated he wasn’t sure about running for the Senate, saying it would be hard to campaign for statewide office and maintain his chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee.

Last week, former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land announced that she plans to run for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate.  U.S. Representative Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township has all but cleared the field for the Democratic nomination.
